WHY SOON-TO-WED COUPLES SHOULD HAVE A WEDDING REGISTRY
A wedding registry is an opportunity to make the best wish list for the home that couples will build as they embark on their new life together. It is a complimentary service provided by a website or a store that can assist engaged couples in selecting gifts that they prefer to receive from their guests. It is considered as one of the fun parts of preparing for marriage, though, sometimes for some couples, this may be end up becoming a tedious task especially when the couples are also busy preparing for the wedding day itself simultaneously. Some Filipino couples might feel withdrawn about "asking" their guests for a type of gift they would want to receive; however, wedding registries are quite practical for both guests and registrants, if done properly. As an event planner myself, I know that preparing for a wedding itself is already a huge task for engaged couples and even for event planners. Though I believe in preparing for and organizing to have a beautiful wedding, I also believe that wedding registry is just as important because, truly, this is where the couples' life together under one roof begins. With that belief and as an added value to my service to them, I encourage and assist my couples to register their wedding and create a wish list.
Having a gift registry has its benefits for both registrants and their guests. One benefit is to avoid ending up with unwanted gifts -- like for instance; 10 mugs, a dozen of plates with different designs and shapes, numerous rice cookers or flat irons. So with that thought, it is really best that couples give wedding registry a priority by starting off with their creation of wish list (ideally) two (2) months prior the big day rather than be bothered about returning to the store the duplicate gifts received or worse owning house items of the same kind, post wedding.
Here are more reasons why wedding registry is a "must-do"
1. Easy to do and free registration. Couples can register online via www.smgiftregistry.com or proceed directly to any branches of the SM Store and look for a GRA (Gift Registry Associate) at Gift Registry section of the SM Store. The bride and the groom can list all of the items they need using their own list or the wedding gift checklist that will be provided for them -- making it hassle-free and convenient. Contrary to popular belief, registration is FREE and will always be!
2. Various gifts with different price points. Without a gift registry, newlyweds often receive similar gifts from their guests. Going through a wedding registry helps guests figure out the kind of presents that will suit the couple's needs. This gives the couple the satisfaction of receiving gifts they really want and need. Through the widest selection of products at the SM Store, couples can include as many items of different kinds that cater to different budgets. Guests will appreciate this part for sure. Plus! Couples may even opt to include gift certificates on their wish list for guests that prefer to give something close to cash gifts.
3. Convenience plus a discount. The wedding registry has now developed in terms of technology. Guests can buy gifts from any of the 52 SM Gift Registry locations nationwide since wish lists can be accessed online and be updated real time. Gifts can also be delivered (if gift giver prefers so) to the couple by the partner courier company of the store. This definitely provides both the gift-giver and the gift-recipient convenience. What's more is that having a registry is a good way to help the couple track the gifts and organize whom to send the 'thank you' notes to after the wedding. And top it all off, through SM Gift Registry, each gift purchased by the couples' guests will receive a 10% discount and SMAC/Prestige card rewards points for both the registrant and guest – definitely the best registry offering in the country to date.
So, I encourage all the soon-to-wed couples to ask their wedding planner or simply tag along their future spouse (or relative or BFF) to the nearest branch of the SM Store Gift Registry and start creating their dream home through their wish list. And trust me, this would be an exciting bonding moment for the bride and groom.
