Top 15 Items Every Couple Must Include in Their Wedding Registry
In this time and age, having a wedding registry is an acceptable concept for Filipinos since it provides a practical way of helping the gift-givers or wedding guests pick out the best gift for the soon-to-wed couples. This way, the gift-giver won't have to spend so much time thinking of what present the couples would like to receive and need. Through a wedding registry, gift-givers will be assured that the gifts they'll give will significantly contribute to the house that the couple is putting together.
Nowadays, Gift Registries are continuously gaining popularity because of its numerous benefits for both gift-givers and gift-recipients. Given that this complimentary service is already available in most stores, the gift registry at the SM Store offers the most benefits for its registrants and their guests. Coming from someone who believes in the practicality of its benefits, I encourage my couples already to create a "wedding wish list" through The SM Store's Gift Registry with a few 'rules' that need to be observed. First, list items that are useful every day and offer gift options on the wish list with different price points to cater to different budgets of the gift-givers.
I have asked a group of 10 of my newlyweds to list their top must haves that they used for the first few months or years of their marriage then I combined it with my own list. So here it goes...
KITCHEN TOOLS/SMALL APPLIANCES
1. Microwave Oven
This item saves time especially if the couple or one of the couples is always in a rush
2. Kitchen Tools
Coming from a first time mother (who chose to be anonymous), the kitchen tools they received for their wedding, particularly the ladles, pans, can opener, knives, and chopping board, are the most used items in their kitchen from day 1. These are the little things that are very useful every day
3. Coffee Maker
Need I say more? This is a must have in every kitchen!
4. Induction cooker for condos or electric/gas range
For obvious reasons. (Note that induction cookers need induction pots and pans)
5. Rice Cooker
This is another must-have in the kitchen. Just make sure to get one that serves at least 4 people in case you have guests and when the family is starting to grow
6. Regular dining flatware and Fine China
Whether it is for everyday use or for entertaining guests, at least one set of each flatware type will be very useful. As for the fine china, it's always nice to impress guests with it since no one knows who will show up at one's doorstep any time after the wedding. Best that the plates you'll choose are solid yet light in case your house help fails to show up after their day off and you or spouse will be in charge of washing the dishes. Trust me, its size and weight matters.
Include a set of at least 8 glasses on your wish list for everyday use and another set of at least 8 for entertaining guests. Eight is a good number for when the glasses "magically disappear" (*wink) in the cupboards for whatever reason – with a little more, you will always have enough, just in case. Make sure that both sets have a solid make and fit your mouth perfectly in such a way that it wouldn't touch your nose when drinking. Also, it should be ergonomic as you hold it, not too big, too heavy nor too light. And I encourage you to test if your hand will fit right into the mouth of the glass reaching its bottom for easy washing otherwise purchase a sponge cleaner designed for glasses.
8. Silverware/Cutlery Set
This is one of the most valuable components of your kitchen and dining. Whether you want it in sterling silver or gold plated, the choice is yours. Just consider its size on your mouth and hand as well as its weight. Afterall, eating with it will surely play a role in enjoying your meals.
BED AND BATH
9. Bed Linens and Pillows
They say that 1/3 of one's daily life is spent on the bed, and the bathroom. Therefore, this place of relaxation and comfort should also be given a little more 'care'. Crisp, smooth and soft bed linens with neutral designs that will fit your style as well as your spouse's style should be the rule of thumb. Some may even prefer sanitized linens with a thread count of at least 300. This tip could also apply in choosing pillows. Whether memory foam is your thing or not or perhaps down pillows fits you and your spouse, make sure to ask a sales person for a pillow that will fit your sleeping position (belly sleeper, side sleeper, etc.). And if you have allergies with certain materials, don't be shy to raise that matter to your gift registry associate or sales person. Remember, the goal is to find pillows that will give you that comfy and cozy feeling every bed time. Just make sure to include at least 2 complete sets in your wedding registry for wash day.
10. Bath Accessories
Organize your hygiene kits: a toothbrush holder, tissue holder, soap dish, and the like. Just make sure to specify on your wish list the color that matches the color or theme of your bathroom. It's always nice to see your bathroom all color-coordinated, yes?
11. Bath Towels
Nothing beats a smooth and fluffy towel on your skin after a shower! Again, color coordination is key to making your bathroom appealing to the eyes. Afterall, you'll spend most of your time there too. Include at least 7 sets of towels – face, hand and bath towels in your wedding registry
12. Bedside Lamp
Granted that you already have your side tables, a bedside lamp is perfect for reading your favorite book before you go to sleep or simply setting a good mood at night. Plus, it saves you from tripping and hurting yourself when moving around at night.
13. Air purifier
Nowadays, even the air that we breathe needs to be clean and free from the so-called 'air contaminants'. Having one at home gives us that one place where we can say we are breathing "clean air".
After making sure that your home essentials are covered on your wish list, it's time include in your travel must-haves for your honeymoon or any family travel that you'll take as a couple and eventually as a family.
Travel bags in different sizes with solid make and easy to maneuver features are the basic must haves.
15. Travel Organizers
Travel organizers wll surely be handy when travelling. Instead of dumping everything in your luggage, your organizers can keep your things in their proper places for easy access and packing.
Follow these simple tips and you will be assured to have a blissful marriage from the start. But don't be limited to just 15 items. This is where the phrase "the more, the merrier" applies. Ideally, the number of items on your wish list should be equal to the number of your guests, at least. For more gift options, let The SM Store's Gift Registry Team assist you.
