Exactly five years ago, I left my office job to focus my attention on taking care of my family. It was a mutual decision my husband and I made. It wasn't an easy decision to make knowing that you will have to be more reasonable in spending. Months passed. I started to miss the rush of having deadlines and working my brain out. I also began to miss earning my own money. For this reason, I decided to write more on my blog and to accept a few online work.
During this time, I began to realize that I am able to write well and work more productively if I have my own work space at home. I am more productive and organized in my performance. Today, let's all get inspired to start decorating your work station at home. Allow me to share with you a few tips on how to do it.
1. Pick a space. There should be an open space somewhere in your home. Size doesn't matter as long as it can fit a personal desk to put your laptop or desktop. It will also be nice if the space is well-ventilated. Some people really find it refreshing to place the desk next to a window to get natural lighting. Utilize that unused space in your home and transform it into your working hub.
2. Pick a table and a comfortable chair. I know how it feels like to turn your bed into a working desk. Been there, done that. But let me tell you this, sometimes a bed is not comfortable to use as your workstation. At times, I hurt my back from bending too low. Also, do you want to pick a fight with your resting husband because of those noisy keyboard click sounds?
3. Fill your working space with the things that you need and love. When I still had my office job, I took pleasure in decorating it. Of course, in the corporate world, there are still some rules you need to follow when you decorate since you don't own that space. That's the beauty of having your own working space at home because you have the liberty to style it any way you want! You can play around using your favorite colors, patterns and add up elements like flowers. Don't forget to also get some storage boxes, a throw pillow and blanket to add warmth while you work.
When you surround yourself with beautiful and lovely things as you work, you won't feel like you're working at all. It attracts positivity, creativity, joy and inspiration. This 2017, start the year right by doing yourself a favor. Go ahead! Organize your thoughts. Find that one space in your home, organize and transform it into a wonderful piece of work.
